How to use the hedge calculator
- Enter the original stake and odds. For a parlay, use the combined odds.
- Enter the current odds on the opposite outcome at any sportsbook.
- Compare the strategies. Equal profit locks in the same result both ways. Protect stake keeps more upside with no downside. You can also try any hedge amount you like.
The math
Worked example
You bet $100 at +500 on a team to win its conference. Before the final, the other side is −180.
- Equal-profit hedge: 100 × 6.00 ÷ 1.556 = $385.71. You lock in +$114.29 whichever team wins.
- Protect-stake hedge: 100 ÷ 0.556 = $180. If your team wins you net +$320. If it loses, you break even.
The hedge calculator works the same way for bonus bets, but a bonus bet doesn’t return its stake. For those, use the bonus bet converter.

Should I always hedge a big futures bet?
Not necessarily. Hedging trades expected value for certainty, and the hedge usually costs you the sportsbook’s margin on the second bet. It makes sense when the potential payout is large relative to your bankroll, or when you can hedge at a +EV price.
How do I hedge a parlay?
Use the parlay’s combined odds and full stake as the original bet, then enter the odds against the final leg. The equal-profit hedge locks in the same result whether the last leg wins or loses.
What is a protect-stake hedge?
It’s a smaller hedge sized so that if the original bet loses, the hedge pays back your original stake. You keep most of the upside if the original wins and break even if it doesn’t.
